Your Questions, Answered

  • As an LPCA working under supervision, the cost for my sessions are offered at a reduced rate of $80 per 55 minute session.

  • As an associate licensed therapist, I am unable to bill insurance at this time. However, I would be happy to provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

  • Once you reach out to me, I will schedule a 15 minute (ish) phone consultation so we can establish if you think I will be a good fit. Following that, we will schedule an intake appointment. Depending on the developmental level of your child, it may just be the guardian/s and me, or we may all meet together. This will mostly be an information gathering session, and a chance for you to really feel out if my therapeutic style feels right. The structure of counseling sessions, generally weekly or biweekly to start, will depend on the client and what their needs are. We will build a therapeutic relationship and get to know each other, and when the client is ready, we will tackle the big stuff. That can look different for every person, and often involves art, play, games, and/or talking it out.

  • In the initial intake, yes! Following that, the client will be invited in independently so we can continue building a trusting therapeutic relationship. There may be times when we invite you into the session, but not every time. It’s really important to me that we have a working relationship too, though, so I schedule 15 minute parent consults regularly, often after every 3 sessions, so we can discuss any progress or concerns. Since I work from a client centered lens, your child will lead the session where they need it to go, and the outcomes from that often lead to the changes you are hoping for in this process. If you are not seeing the progress you would expect, or if you would like to meet with a therapist who specializes in family therapy (where you would be involved in sessions), I’m happy to make a referral.

  • Yes. Except when there are legal concerns (about abuse or safety), everything that happens in a session is kept confidential between the client and therapist. When we have consultations without your child present, I will not share specifics about what they shared, but I will share themes, strategies, and/or things that I have found helpful, if it is appropriate. I will also get your feedback about things that have improved and areas for growth. I will always loop you in when I need to. I realize that this requires a huge amount of trust, so please reach out if you have any concerns along the way.

  • Before obtaining full licensure, all Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) have to complete at least 2 years of clinical experience under supervision, and that’s what I’m working towards. I meet weekly with my two supervisors to work on ways to help your child more effectively.

  • If therapy with me isn’t helpful (you're not noticing any reduction in problematic symptoms in the timeframe you would prefer), I am happy to provide a referral to another therapist- my style won’t work for everyone, and that’s ok! I would also encourage you that it takes time to get rid of negative habits and patterns, just like it’s taken time to build those habits and patterns that brought you here, but it is possible. We will be in contact along the way, and I hope you will bring any concerns about the effectiveness of our work to the forefront in these conversations.
